Geosciences

Research at the intersection of mathematics, physics, and earth sciences — including sea ice dynamics, oceanography, glaciology, and climate science.

Sea Ice & Melt Ponds

Melt ponds form on Arctic sea ice each summer and play a crucial role in the ice-albedo feedback mechanism. My PhD work at the University of Oxford developed dynamical network models to study how these ponds evolve, merge, and drain over time. This included applying topological data analysis (TDA) to detect percolation thresholds in melt pond evolution.

Meteorite Recovery in Antarctica

Antarctica’s blue ice areas act as concentration zones for meteorites. Using mathematical models of ice flow and ablation, I contributed to work identifying a hidden layer of meteorites beneath the ice surface — meteorites that may never be recovered by conventional surface surveys.
